Duquesne's Chuck Cooper
Cooper was the first black player drafted by an NBA team
Duquesne is the only school to have back-to-back first overall picks in the NBA Draft
Dick Ricketts was selected 1st overall by the Saint Louis Hawks in 1955. After 3 years in the NBA Ricketts also pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959
Sihugo Green was selected 1st overall by the Rochester Royals in 1956 - Green was selected ahead of San Francisco star Bill Russell
Dudey Moore and the 1955 NIT Championship Team
Dudey Moore coached the Dukes from 1949-1958 and led the Dukes to a 191-70 record an NCAA Tournament appearance and the 1955 NIT Championship
Red Manning and the 1961-62 Dukes
Red Manning coached the Dukes from 1959-1974 and led them to a 247-138 record and 2 NCAA Tournament appearances
Norm Nixon
"Stormin' Norman" was Duquesne's most successful pro player - Nixon ended his 10 year NBA career with 12,065 points (15.7 ppg) and 6,386 assists (8.3 APG). Nixon was a 2 time NBA All Star and helped the Lakers win NBA Titles in 1980 and 1982
Derrick Alston
The 6'11 Alston played for the Dukes from 1990-94. Alston ended his career at Duquesne with a career average of 16.7ppg and 7.7rpg. Alston played 3 forgettable seasons in the NBA before having a lengthy and successful career overseas.
Kenya Hunter
Hunter played for the Dukes from 93-96 and finished his career ranked third on the Dukes' all-time assist list (439). Hunter is currently an assistant coach at Georgetown, after working as an assistant at Xavier, NC State, and Duquesne.
Mike James
Mike James excelled for the Dukes in the late 90s and is currently a member of the New Orleans Hornets
