Providence coach fired, could Ron Everhart replace him?

All year long there has been speculation that Ron Everhart would leave Duquesne for a bigger program, and Providence was the school most often mentioned, now the door to that job at Providence is open. Will Everhart leave Duquesne? The Dukes lost 5 games in the stretch run of the season, failed to win close games, and lost to a very beatable La Salle team in the 1st round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, for all of those reasons I think Everhart will be back at Duquesne next year. Only time will tell.

Ron is a class act and want to build something here long term. I think he is going to stay.

I would hope he stays. It seems that a first-class program has been built at Duquesne and he is a big part of that.

The season of the Dukes, which I have followed quite pleasantly through the posts here at Dukes Court, was a nice one to see and follow.

I hope he stays.

I think you've gotta dance or at least make a run in the NIT before you get a BCS conference job. Even if it is Providence.

it seems at any of the schools ron goes to, he brings the team back to being competitive and makes it to the nit then leaves. now, before he can make the step to a power conference (such as the big east) he has to show he can get a team to the tourney.

I really don't care whether he leaves or stays. And that is an honest opinion. If he is good enough to get another job at a higher conference, go for it.

Frankly, I don't think he has done enough here to warrant such attention.

This year had a bunch of wins over also-rans and a one game improvement on the A-10 record. If that merits a big promotion and a BCS job, I think he should take it.

I think that he would be making a mistake to leave early. He needs to prove himself more before moving up to a "bcs" conference. If he wins at Duquesne, he could probably get a better job than Providence anyway. I think if he does go to the tourney, Duquesne will fork out the money and try to get him to stay. Plus, his wife legitimately likes it here and wants to stay so there would still be a chance.

2 end of season collapses isn't the way to build your resume. PC could probably aim higher than RE - at least as far as tourny success goes. Why hire RE when you may be able to get Phil Martelli? PC isn't a destination job by any means, but winning in the Big East can get you one.
