T.J. McConnell Update

#11 T.J. McConnell with his father and coach Tim McConnell

The Trib wrote an article about the success of the Chartiers Valley basketball team this past weekend. Much of Char Valley's success can be attributed to outstanding sophomore "Wunderkind" T.J. McConnell. McConnell, at 5'8, leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game. McConnell improved his shooting by making 500 3-pointers per practice, six days a week. Tim McConnell said the exercise normally took his son two hours to complete and consisted of about 900-1,000 shots.

T.J. McConnell has already accepted a scholarship offer from Ron Everhart to play at Duquesne when he graduates from Chartiers Valley.

So what's the deal with this kid? Obviously he can shoot, but 5'8? Is he projected to keep growing or is that about as tall as he's getting?

I just find it hard to believe a sophomore in HS would be offered, let alone accept a scholarship...

But I guess that's why I'm not a college coach, just an incompetent blogger...

The kid is just damn good. That's why I have nicknamed him "Wunderkind."

I'll trust the judgment over the coaching staff over big snack's, if it's all the same with, mr. snack.

If Coach Everhart wants him, then I want him. Would it be considered tampering if I bought that kid a protein shake?

As long as he can shoot, run, and he plays hard I don't really care how tall he is. Look at Reggie Jackson, he is generously listed at 5'11 and he is having a wonderful season for the Dukes.

It also does't hurt that his aunt is the Dukes Girls head coach, and that his dad calls 75% of the plays to him during CV games to ensure that he keeps that average up.

I have been to many of the CV games, and it is ridiculous that "wunderkid" almost never gets taken out of the game when he makes a mistakes. But the four other starters get screamed at and taken out of the game for sometimes one mistake.
It's pretty easy to lead the team in points when you never get taken out of the game, and most of the plays are called to you, oh yea, by your father, the coach.

Wunderkid's performance at the Palumbo yesterday was terrible. He scored 8 points and once again made a lot mistakes and was never taken out of the game. Figures.
